First, I need to thank everyone who made the banquet possible. I could never remember and include all of the various parent volunteers... so to avoid leaving anyone out, I will thank you all as a group. THANK YOU!!!! We could not have the type of event that we do without your assistance.
I made a huge omission during my closing remarks when I neglected to thank Mr. Rudolph for his help this year. With family issues, I have been forced to miss a lot of school and several events this year. Mr. Rudolph has stepped in and kept the band program rolling. He has gone far above and beyond his normal scope of operation and given many additional hours to the band. I sincerely apologize for getting lost in my notes and skipping this important acknowledgement!
Thanks as well to the students. You are the Pope Band. You choose to participate... and those of you who stay for all four years do a lot schedule manipulation in order to do so. You leave a legacy of excellence for those who follow. It is always a sad farewell, but we know that you are heading into your future with the tools for success.
For the newly selected student leaders... you have a big job ahead. Embrace it with enthusiasm and create your own legacy.
For everyone... We need you to be active, supportive, and vocal in your support of the band. Our future depends on drawing in new members, and our level of accomplishment depends on getting them active in things beyond the minimal participation. Give new ensembles a try...attend a few more events... make some great memories... you will be glad that you did!
Finally, I must recognize the extraordinary speech delivered by Hangil Ryu. It was moving and motivational. We are so fortunate to have students of intellect and passion in the band program. Hangil approached us with this idea a while back, and we thought it would be a wonderful moment...it did not disappoint! The challenge that Hangil put forward was for a student to continue that tradition each year...and he left some HUGE shoes to be filled. Juniors, start working on your speech now!
We looked back on many wonderful accomplishments this year and honored all of the amazing students for their contributions. It was a fun filled and emotional evening. Thanks again for being a part of it!
