Here's our reality. Based on absence requests...from this day forward, we will never have all members of our marching band in the same place at the same time. Not for a rehearsal...not for a football game...not for a competition. There will be gaps in our shows for the remainder of marching season.
I know everyone has a lot to do...I know some of the conflicts are unavoidable...I know & I know & I know...but it doesn't change the fact that our show will never be able to reach it's full potential. That makes me feel bad for the rest of the students who are there, working and performing just as hard as they can.
I'm not asking, nor would I ever expect you to be able to anticipate emergencies. I'm not asking that anyone miss very special events or activities that only happen once in a lifetime. I'm not asking kids to show up sick or injured. What I AM asking is that we try to do a better job planning all of the other, more commonplace things around the performance schedule and around as many rehearsals as possible so that we stand a chance of one day seeing the Pope Band with a complete show routine.
Sometimes we just have to prioritize. My family has rescheduled birthday celebrations, anniversaries, and other events because of performance obligations. We have had to bypass some popular music concerts, festivals, movies, or other things that we might have enjoyed, but we had made a commitment to the band. It's not always easy, but sometimes it is for the best of the group. When you join the band, you are joining a group that performs together...not as a bunch of individuals. We need everyone so that we can truly "Be All That You Can Be".
