The students really stepped up the levels of marching and playing and felt much better about this performance. It was the best show of the year for our color guard, and the really amazing aspect of their performance is that they are mostly rookies! This bodes really well for the future.
Once again, people in attendance were awed by the emotion and the message of our show. One of the Haralson parents working equipment stopped me and talked for several minutes about his 27 years in the Army and what our show meant to him. The announcer spoke to Mr Rudolph after the show and expressed his gratitude. I received a text from a fellow band director saying that he was thrilled that his kids got to see our show. One of the evaluators, under the category of "General Effect", wrote on his sheet "Nothing short of incredible!" Several of our parents in attendance reported seeing tears form other spectators. This is not your typical marching band show and I hope that you are getting the idea that it is more than just about getting awards...we are creating a work of art.
As we look ahead to next weekend at Vanderbilt University, we once again face a group of bands with some awesome credentials. In our class alone, the band right before us has already won multiple championships this year and has won the Vandy show several times. Our neighbors from North Cobb go right after us, and they are having a fantastic year....with their first ever Bands of America regional this past weekend in which they were named finalists. We can't do anything about their levels of preparation and how much time they have spent getting their shows polished and prepared. All we can do is our best to make our show the strongest it can be.
We have a lot of work to do in our remaining two rehearsals....and we want to see the show reach it's best by Saturday. If possible, we would love to see a large Pope crowd in attendance. It will be the final competitive performance ever of this show and it promises to be very emotional. Join us in Nashville for the culmination of our journey and support the Pop
