There are many, many things that go into operating and supporting the band program. We appreciate the efforts of those who can be here and give the physical support by chaperoning, helping with equipment, assisting in setup for events, and maintenance of our room. We realize that everyone is busy, and sometimes it is easier to donate than to be at an activity. We welcome any and all donations… no matter how small!
Here’s a donation wish list of items that we use on a regular basis. Perhaps you would be willing to donate one or more items to help sustain the band program.
-Batteries (we use 9 volt, AA, and AAA for tuners, metronomes, portable cameras and recorders, microphones, etc) In a typical year, we might use over 100 batteries.
-Kleenex (we use dozens of boxes per year)
-Gift card to a local music store or pre-pay for some instrument repair. We spend thousands of dollars per year fixing damaged instruments or purchasing things like brass instrument mutes, ligatures, reeds, etc.
-Props and/or costume items for the Xplosion! Show. We spend hundreds on individual items for our Spring production. Things like hats, masks, glow sticks, posters, hula hoops, etc. IF you would prefer to donate a gift card earmarked for this purpose, it would allow us to purchase whatever specific items we need for the current show, or you may contact us in March/April to find out specific needs for the current year.
- #2 pencils. Each student is expected to have one in their music folder. We have 200+ total students.
-sheet protectors. We use over 1000 per year for staff instructor notebooks
-Tape. We use 8-10 rolls of blue painters tape each year on the XPLOSION! Show tarp. We use 4-6 rolls of clear packing tape repairing music books, etc. We use 12-15 rolls of duct tape per year on various projects.
-Black socks and white gloves for marching band. We loan out dozens of items each year to students who don’t have what they need or lose items. Contact the uniform chairpeople for specifics.
-Snacks for trips and events. We often provide small snacks during our activities. Contact the head chaperone for ideas.
-Sticks, mallets, and small percussion items. There are literally hundreds of smaller items that we use and they wear out. Our budget gets spent on larger instruments, so often we don’t have any way to replace the small items.
-Music Stands (that match our current style). Approx. $40 each. They wear out and we can always use more!
If you want to make a larger contribution, we certainly welcome that as well. Our golf cart, the instrument storage cabinets in the back of the band room, and one of our sound systems were all donated by past band parents.
“Big ticket” items:
-Microphones and cables (can cost several hundred to a thousand dollars)
-ink cartridges for our laser printer (approx. $250 each). Our annual supply budget from the school is less than the cost of a set of cartridges for the machine.
-Instrument storage cabinet (to match the ones we have) Approx. $1800
-an additional golf cart or ATV (our cart is old and will eventually wear out)
-display framing of old band uniforms (we have two “retired” uniforms that we would love to frame to match the one hanging in the band room). Can cost up to $1000 for display/framing.
Many thanks in advance for your time and consideration!
