When you see the marching band at halftime this year, you will notice something new and different. We are performing a simplified marching routine and two songs by the rock group "Journey" as our show. This is our "Friday Night Band" which practices only for an hour on Friday afternoons and performs at the games. It is an effort to get more of our non-marching members to give marching band a try...without the full commitment of a competition band member.
We still have our competition marching band, with its complex routines and more advanced music. This group practices Tuesdays and Thursdays each week, with occasional section rehearsals and one Saturday practice. While the schedule is more demanding than Friday Night Band, it is still less than most other high school marching bands. We will perform this show after each home game. Please plan to stay and see these students perform.
In the "plan ahead" category, look through the website for details on the upcoming "East Cobber" parade. Schedule carefully around our remaining marching practices as we are getting close to competition time. Notice the Fall Concert on September 23rd...we want to see all of you there supporting our three performing band classes.
Finally, we have a link on this site where you can order DVDs of last Spring's "XPLOSION!" show. We have also rolled out the new Pope Band App. Go to your app store and search "Pope Band". The app is free and we will be using it to send some "push notification" messages as well as some great future offers that will benefit the Pope Bands. We had over 300 downloads in our first week!
