First, it gives the students the equivalent of an entire week's regular class period rehearsal time in less than 2 days.
Second, it allows our kids to experience a guest conductor and/or some professional coaches for their instrument. This interaction can spur the students to think in new ways, understand things from a different perspective, or finally have the "AHA" moment as they understand a concept for the first time.
It also gives them a connection to people other than their regular teacher...in many cases, someone who might be a future college conductor/professor, the director of an honors group, or a potential private teacher.
The progress made on our LGPE music in a short period of time is amazing. If you heard the band at the start and again at the end of Symphonic Camp, you would not believe the progress! Intense, focused, uninterrupted time on task is a fantastic teacher! It moves us far ahead and gives us excellent momentum into the next phase of our development.
Many thanks to the PBPA volunteers who helped chaperone, feed the staff, and move equipment for this event. Our undying gratitude to the guest conductors and section coaches who gave of their time and expertise to work with our students! You guys are amazing.
A special word of thanks to Mr. Rudolph for the many hours of scheduling, logistical work, and contracting of the instructors for the event!
