This is a unique performance opportunity that doesn't exist anywhere else in our area. It is a show based on fun and entertainment rather than being a formal concert. IT gives the students the chance to have new and different experiences with choreography, characterization, and new musical genres.
A show such as this requires a GREAT deal of advance preparation and planning. The logistics of venue, staging, and transitioning between numbers is staggering. The creative process...coming up with ideas and execution for the choreography and characterization takes many, many hours. Securing props and costumes, setting the stage, working with lighting and sound, coordinating the timing...the list goes on and on. On top of that, the students have to learn a TON of music and it has to be played from memory. Whew!
Why, you might ask, would we go through all of this for a show that happens after we've already had a strenuous year?
Why? Because of the experience the students received when the audience rose to their feet in a thunderous ovaation at the end of each show. Because of the look of satisfaction on the kids faces when they got their routine/music just right. Because it teaches them more than just playing their instrument. Because they team up in new combinations. Because they gain skills that can transfer into other performances. Because they are viewed differently by the audience in this show than in a formal concert...it's just more fun!
Congratulations to all the student performers on a job well done!
Thank you to the staff members who created and taught routines and music.
Thanks to the booster parents who helped organize, advertise, and operate the show.
And finally....thanks to those who came and saw the show!
A final thought for those who chose not to participate in the show this year...you only get one chance at experiences like this. Once you miss them, they are gone forever. Looking back years later in regret that you didn't get the chance to do something so special is a hollow memory at best. Be involved...joining the band can be one of the most exciting and rewarding decisions you ever make...but only if you are there for the payoff! Better to make great memories than great excuses...
