Marching Band Information and Forms

NOTES FROM A SECOND YEAR BAND MOM
Welcome to one of the great music programs in Cobb County. You will be so glad your student is here having this amazing experience. We though we’d share some things that are so much a part of the program that no one thinks to tell you. We hope you find them helpful.

  • THE WEBSITE IS YOUR BEST FRIEND. VISIT IT OFTEN!!! You’ll find practice schedules, performance dates and important dates and times. ABSENCES: Notify directors and section leaders of all anticipated absences as far in advance as possible. A form must be completed for each and every absence PRIOR to the absence. The online form is found under “Resources”> “Forms & Handouts”> “Absence Form”. 
  • All marching practices are MANDATORY. 
  • On practice days, students can stay at Pope in the band room until practice starts if transportation is an issue. 
  • On game day, Friday, your student should bring all their marching gear with them to school. You should send them with a dinner or order a dinner sandwich through the band program. 
  • All band members will be dismissed by the directors from the band room after the game. Often they will watch film from their half-time performance before being dismissed. 
  • Marching season lasts through the end of November – first part of December. Again, check the calendar dates and times. 
  • Keep the month of October, including every weekend, free for competitions, and rehearsals. 
  • There will be additional competition housing and transportation fees that will be due in late September early October.

THE MARCHING BAND PROGRAM
Marching Band is an extra curricular activity  (like a sport or club).  Marching band has two possible levels of participation:
  • Competition Marching Band
  • Friday Night Marching Band

Competition Band has summer rehearsal, a week long summer camp and regular practices 3 days a week. This group performs at football games on Friday nights, parades and about 3 competitions each fall.

Friday Night Marching Band attends abbreviated portions of summer camp, practices on friday night prior to the football games, performs at the football game and have the option of participating in parades and community performances. They do not compete.

Dinner between school and game

Every football game Friday (home or away), the band offers the option to participate in ordering a sandwich dinner from Which Wich. The meals will be brought to the school and will be ready and waiting for you or your student between the end of Friday Night Band practice and call time. No rushing to school with a dinner for your student or packing an extra lunchbox meal.
